“An artist is an explorer. He has to begin by self-discovery and by observation of his own procedure. After that he must not feel under any constraint.”
– Henry Matisse
Capturing motion has been the main focus for the past few months, ICM techniques being tested, modified and mastered. Discovering new colour palettes, mediums and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
It was the lack of movement, use of negative space and colour which drew my attention to this piece. A contrast from previous new releases with a misty outline of Inisfallen Island, sitting on the horizon, waiting to be explored.
Exploration is a huge part of Keith’s work in the literal and methodic sense. Crisp black and white images are a stark contrast to the mottled, watercolour styled prints displayed on our walls. Each subject matter another chapter in the story – from the coastlines and cities of the world, to our beloved West Coast, showcasing the overlooked beauty.
Anyone who visits will be drawn to the image that speaks to them the most. Picked from a collection of photographs taken over the years, based upon exploration. Each image taken from a perspective, found only through the explorer’s eyes. The journey is in the finished piece. All proudly displayed, each one the award for the time and energy spent creating it.
