First Light Carrantuohill

First Light Carrantuohill

Sunrise over the Macgillicuddy Reeks and Carrantuohill, Ireland’s highest mountain. I waited for 3 years for this image, captured around the shortest day of the year in mid December all the elements had to come together for it to be successful. The sun only rises at this angle around the time I mention for a few weeks, snow on the mountain was needed to enhance the image and a calm overcast morning was required so the rising sun’s hues would be held by the mountain cloud cover.

The cross placed on top of Carrantuohill is clearly visible and a special part of the detail in this image for me.
